Reliability of SL500 20024 & 2005?
Consumer Reports states that you should not buy a 2004 or 2005 SL500? What types of reliability problems occur in these cars?
I have a SL500 produced in 2003. The first three years were fine but problems start to occur in the fourth. It ranges from gear-stuck ( cannot shift out from park ) to ABC leak, power steering , hydraulic suspension problems among others. Each repair bill cost thousands. If you must have one, buy it new or under 2 years old. -ctl
If you can get a few more dollars and buy 2007 SL550 instead, I think you will be a lot happier. There were may significant changes that year as well as the larger engine. Also - and a big deal - you can get extended warranty if you want on a 2007. As a general rule, you are very limited on what type, if any, warranty you can get on a car over 7 years old.
