what is the longevity of a 96 SL320
well we went 300,000 miles on the 72 chevy Impala (cab 96) before it went in for a Jasper rebuild~
In reality even with scheduled oil changes, timing chains will stretch....sometimes they are double chains for double-life but would change my timing chain at 100,000 it is folly to expect more~,,,,they stretch~
My 68 Mercedes 230S had a single timing chain and was easy to replace~
Well the SL320 is the big straight 6 motor, these cars are known to be reliable with proper maineance. I would check the SL forums to get a better insight on the 320 model designation and possible longevity. My grandfather owned one about the same as what your looking at, and it was fantastic.
80% of longevity is not the engine its the driver.
