mercedes gear shift linkage on 2001 Ml
My car starts fine but is stuck/frozen in Park. i called mercedes and they walked me through manually overriding the stuck gear shift................ but what, most llikely is it and approximatley how much to fix? 2001 ML
Same thing happened to my 02', the only way to override is to stick something long and thin in the hole before D. My problem was the brake pedal sensor, it was stuck in the engaged position. The part to fix it was $20. It's pretty easy to fix if you are handy with this kind of thing. You could have a worn down bushing in the shifter itself. They are often made of plastic and degrade over time. How many miles are on yours? Can you get the brake lights to come on?
THIS is why I always carry a screw driver in the car! same thing happened to me about a month or so ago, got stuck in a drive thru. When they said they'd have to tow me so I asked for a screw driver (didn't have one at the time) and I got the DUMBEST look from 3 men. Got it outta park in 2 seconds ..... handed 'em back the screw driver and said, "guess ya learned something new today." :)
same thing happened to my car 2 days ago its stuck in parking and i moved whit screw dirver on drive but its driving only second gear i can only go whit 30 miles an hr....the mechanic plug the computer in and firs he said it transmisionn need to be change..then he looked at shifter and he said the shifter is burn and he said from mecrcedes benz dealer the shifter cost around 600..but he said he gonna get it from junkyard for around 150 200$ plus 50$labor....so hes going to fix it on monday....did anybody know what the shifter cost??? and reason its stuck i think cus before that happened half hr before by mistake i drop water bottle and water got inside the shifter and after 30 min itss got stuck on drive...
