'00 Chevy Prism: Igntion gets hot?

Asked by Jul 27, 2014 at 07:33 PM about the 2000 Chevrolet Prizm 4 Dr STD Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The ignition on my Prizm, heats up...
To a point in which, if i'm not careful,
will leave burn marks on my hand.
What's this mean, and what should
be done (any/all options are
appreciated)?

Call the dealer with the VIN. It could be one of those in the recall. If it isn't then the first thing to do is gain access to the switch assembly, check the wiring and connectors at the switch and repair if needed then replace the ignition switch and then drive it for a while to verify that it is fixed.
