top wont totally engage and trunk wont open
the top on my 2000 clk430 went up half way before it totally stopped. I was able to get it back up manually and lock into the windshield but the rear is still open about an inch and to top it off, there is oil on the trunk and the trunk wont open. I'm assuming the hydraulics are shot. what to do and what am I looking at to fix it here in NJ or is it something I can fix myself even though I am only a little handy??? thanks guys!
Did you check the fuse? If your fuse has never been replaced it is 15 years old at least. Sounds like you lost all power to the system. First place would be the fuse, next is the switch. If your hydraulic oil is leaking out, can you check the level? You also could of blown a line and there is not enough oil in the system to operate it. If the top is not fully closed, I believe the trunk will not open to prevent damage. MBZ I'm sure is familiar with that type of situation. Call or go visit them and ask how to close the rear deck lid to get the trunk open.
My top quit shortly after I bought is a couple of months ago. I did research, etc. My advice is take it to your mechanic and let him fix it.
