Bad gas smell
My 2000 chevy impala has bad gas smell coming
through the air vents mostly on the first start of the
day and after stopping and going again as at a red
light or stop sign. Can smell it coming from under
the hood when you get out as well. Just replaced
the EGR valve last year along with the starter have
checked the connections and everything appears
to be ok there. Cannot find any wet spots
anywhere so I don't think its leaking but smells
really bad and mileage is not as good as it should
be. Also still has an insufficient flow code.
Double check for leaks. If no leaks, check Evaporative Emissions system. Solenoid might be stuck open. Did you notice this after you filled your gas tank up?
The insufficient flow code means you're not getting the proper fuel vapor flow back to the engine through the EVAP system. Look for disconnected or damaged vacuum hoses. If everything looks ok you'll have to get a smoke test done to find the vapor leak. HTH. - Jim
