Asked by daralynn Sep 12, 2012 at 10:23 PM about the 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My gears slipped, and I turn the car off in reverse. I put the transmission fluid in the car. How to get the gears back on track while the car off, and transmission fluids are filled.

I'm assuming you have an automatic. Sounds to me you need a rebuild before you just put in fluids and go. The clutch discs are too far gone.

How did you know how much fliud to add? Engine has to be running when the plug is removed to check the fluid it can't be added while the engine is off. You will never get a proper reading.
