have a diesel 3500 dodge, ac is ok when first started, if really hot outside, only lasts about 3 miles, fan still runs, but sounds different like blocked hose, not cold air.

starts out ac ok, but when real hot outside, fan changes sound like the fan is blocked and still makes some noise but no cold air. used to freeze you out . could it be the compressor

Sounds like the cooling coils (evaporator) is freezing up and blocking the airflow. Possibly the compressor cycling switch is bad or you're low on refrigerant. HTH. -Jim
