First check you gas cap. Is it on tight? then if the light is still on, do you have any messages like, oil pressure low, or smog stuff out of whack, or is it just a "check engine" light with no explanation. Unfortunately around here in Orange County, the dealers are charging $125 just to read the light, which they will add to the repair cost if you have them do any work to fix it. Some break or transmission shops advertise they will read the code and tell you what it is indicating. They do not say in the advertisement if they also charge for the service. Oh I miss the good old days.
