Coil wire sparking in the dark 97 Dodge Ram

Asked by Jul 11, 2017 at 10:59 AM about the 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 Laramie SLT Extended Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok so I have a 97 Dodge Ram 2500. Put
new spark plug wires and coil wire on it as
well as a new coil.  But I am having issues
that in the dark you can see the coil wire to
distributer sparking and kind of glowing.
Has check engine light as well one is for
the coil ground? Also the check engine
light flashes while I am driving it but only at
certain RPMs.  I didn't get a chance to
check it  extensively.    Anyone else have
this problem and how did ya fix it?

Then you have a bad coil wire, even though it is new it needs repalced. Coil ground is supplied through the coil mount and that is usually right to the engine block, so check all your grounds especially the ones for sensor and engine grounding. Then if the check engine comes back on have the codes pulled and go from there. But get that high energy leak fixed first, stray voltage of that kind can cause damage to other systems.
