I was on my way home from work and my Dodge Ram Mega Cab felt like it just went into neutral during a slight acceleration. I pulled over only to find that none of the gears worked and I had a wining noise comming from the vehicle when I accelerated. None of the gears worked, it was like I was in neutral the entire time. This is a 2006 with 82000 miles on it without four wheel drive. how is this possible?? We are experiencing weather in the teens in Chicago but this seems very strange to me. Had the truck towed to the repair shop which will be open day after tomorrow. Any ideas??

Low fluid level will make the car seem it is in neutral when cold. But your truck was probably warmed up at the time and you have a whining noise? Possibly the torque converter in the transmission. From where I sit, I think your looking at a rebuilding the transmission.

well that's bad news but thanks. Is this normal for a truck with 82000 miles on it? 2006? it will be paid off in April. what does this usually cost?


I just had the same problem. My truck was not quite warmed up but pulled out onto a street and I heard a large clunk, then nothing... Curious as to what it is...
