Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Will start just fine in the mornings but the
next time I go to start it, it clicks and takes
15-20 seconds of holding key down to turn
over and start? Anyone else have this
problem or know what it could be?

it clicks that's your answer, or to acquire an answer without that youd get so many reply's you would build a new truck. oh the click is your solenoid trying to energize the starter and the current just cant flow, from battery wires to starter brushes. bang on the starter with a hammer to shake the brushes down to rule out that part first

I looked it up on another site.. Could it be my fuel injectors like one of them bad? Leaking? Could that also impact my mpg?

I'd would say you have a bad starter solenoid or bad connection at starter, ground,or at the battery

holding the key down 20 seconds? like in silence and then it decides to turn the engine over? no, I think your describing cranking round and round and not fireing up, yeah, on the injectors leaking down possible.pull a plug and see for wet with fuel if you like, or hold the peddle to the metal and give it lots of air

Yes.. It cranks and cranks until it turns over.. It probably realistically 8-10 seconds of cranking until it starts.. But in the morning it fires right up.. So i really dont know.. And dont know anything about trucks dammit..

My 2002 with the 4.7 engine did the same thing yours is doing. 2 injectors bleeding off mechanic replace the 2 for just a little over $300. One shop wanted to replace all 8 at a cost of $1200 couldn't see doing that. He also recomended a good injector cleaner. He just pulled the fuel rack and injectors and pressured them up having a gauge on them and paper towel under injectors. The paper towel would let him know which ones were leaking. He had worked as a mechanic for a Dodge dealership prior to starting his own business
