Yes, The 2002 engine probably has a 16 tooth tone ring, (reluctor) on the crankshaft, and your 2005 had a 32 tooth reluctor. It is not going to fire up. You would have to change the computer for the 2002 engine.

any other sensors or just change pcm

It ben awhile since I have researched this, there is a lot of info on line about this. I can't remember if the wiring harness needs to be changed out or not.

can the pcm be reprogrammed?

I am not sure on that one...Let me ask you this, when you put that engine in, did everything hook back up with your wiring harness? I'm going to do some looking on this, and save the stuff, 3erd time I have gone threw this. The last time it was just a matter of changing the PCM. I assume the Dakota engine is a 4.7L also?

Can you get the computer out of the vehicle the engine came out of?

no its a 3 plug and mines a 4 plug pcm I'm wondering if one from an 05 Dakota will work

everything hooked up except the oil pressure switch 02 is 2 wire 05 is 1 wire

Ok, there is a problem here. The 2002 Dodge has a separate transmission control module than the pcm. The 2005 Dodge pcm has the transmission control module built into it, thus the 4 wire plugin. See what I am getting at? Your either going to have to change the trany out also and put in the pcm and tcm from the 2002 and wiring harness. Or there is another option, you could take the engine out and there is a kit to switch the engine to a 32 tooth tone ring. The crankshaft would have to come out.

wow not what I wanted to hear, can I get a pcm out of a different vehicle or have one programmed or mine reprogrammed?

Now that would be nice if you could just have yours reprogrammed. But I don't know if this is possible. You would have to do some research about this, and I would suggest trying the dealer, but I know how they are. I was thinking, and I don't know if this would work, but it would be to put the 3 plugin computer and wiring harness in for the engine, and leave the plugins for the transmission still plugged into the 4 wire computer. And if it worked, then just have to mount the 3 wire plugin computer. Like I said, I'm not sure if it would work or not, but it is a easy option to try. Just try the one out of the other vehicle.

other vehicle was junked, could you tell me what vin code they used for the difference in 16 tooth to 32 tooth or do I have to pull the pan and look?

Your engine has a 16 tooth crank sensor tone wheel that you put in. These engines used the JTEC engine controller. The newer engines with the NGC controller (came out in the 4.7 Ram in 2003) used the 32 tooth crank sensor tone wheel. The crank sensor tone wheel and the right side cam sprocket would need to be swapped out with the old engine for a newer engine to run in your truck. If the 8th digit in the VIN is N, it's 32 tooth ring. by looking at how many plugs are on the PCM. Another way to tell is If the pcm got 4 plugs it's a 32tooth engine. If PCM has 3 plugs and a separate TCM it's 16tooth.

The easiest thing to do is pull the motor and replace the tone rings on the crankshaft and camshaft. That way you would not have a problem with wiring.

any idea where I can get another tone ring or tell if its the same as mine? mine got screwed up when 4,8 piston exploded

Here is a video on the tone rings. But you will be putting a 32 tooth tone ring into the 2002 engine... https://youtu.be/mtm5MbvLyuw
