were is the thermostat on a 2005 ram 1500 4.7 liter

This is a backward flow engine so the thermostat in the thermostat housing right where the lower hose attaches to the engine, and when you do replace the thermostat make sure you get the jiggle pin in the right position, there is a small groove in the housing that it will line up with.
