Why is my 6 spd manual tranny hard to shift into all gears?

Asked by oregonrusty May 26, 2012 at 11:35 AM about the 2005 Dodge RAM 1500 ST Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Out of the blue my truck became hard to shift into any gear.  Up shifting is sort of ok but down shifting it is difficult to get into gear (clutch pedal fully depressed).  A couple of times it almost didn't go into gear, especially first.  No leaks under the truck and the fluid reservoir is full.

i think you have to change gear oil in your manual transmission! that might help to resolve ur problem

yup id start with a gear oil change. if your one of those people who doesnt always use the clutch when down shifting its more than likely the synchronizers

I would check your clutch adjustment. If there is air in the Hydraulic lines the clutch is not fully disengaging and is dragging power to the trans even with pedal down. That will make it hard to shift. Clue is if for just a second or two when upshifting (1-2 or 2-3, etc.) it clicks in when rpm matches speed, you have a dragging clutch. Other problems can be a worn input shaft holding the disc on the flywheel as well. Check for leaks, top off and bleed the hydraulic clutch and see if that helps. Good Luck!

When I disengage the clutch it pops out of gear. Any clue what this might be caused by?
