2005 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7

Asked by Thehayden Feb 24, 2018 at 03:22 AM about the 2005 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Quad Cab LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I ha e a 2005 Dodge Ram with the 4.7. It has a ticking
noise but It sounds like it’s coming from the bottom, but it
isn’t loud enough or sound like a knock. Is it possible that
it is a exhaust manifold leak? I don’t lose any oil pressure
and it starts from when I start it and excels with the rpms.
Any help or advice would be appreciated

I am dealing with the same issue on my 2002 Ram 4.7 liter. Initially I thought it was a bad lifter and loose rocker arm ticking. That is until my truck broke down on me while driving. After I started looking at it , I discovered the secondary timing chain guides on passenger side were totally gone. This was causing the ticking noise because the plastic on the chain guides was broken off and chain was loose slapping on the metal guide. Ultimately while driving the timing chain jumped time causing a lot of damage. 4 bent intake valves, destroyed the cam sprocket and camshaft sensor pickup wheel. And a ton of metal shavings in the oil pan and under the timing chain cover. My advice is to address the issue ASAP and save yourself a Tow bill and thousands of $$$ in parts and labor. I am almost done rebuilding mine and I replaced the bent valves, all the timing chain components(Tensioners, Guides, Sprockets, Chains) Oil Pump, all the lifters and valve spring seats. All new gaskets and I have a lot of time and about $600 invested. That's doing all the labor myself.... I have attached some photos of what I found inside my engine...Not Good...
