My 2005 Dodge Ram 4.7 is having trouble starting, it usually takes 3 attemps until it turns over. I suspected that it may be the check valve on the sending unit but I can find the part in online autopart stores which leads me to believe that it doesn't have one. Could it possibly be the fuel pump?

So it cranks Ok but won't fire off for at least 3 tries, right? If that is the case then the first thing to do is to check the fuel pressure and flow, as Dodge deemed it necessary to put the fuel filter in the fuel tank on the bottom of the fuel sender assembly that is usually the culprit But if you have over 80000 miles on it I would just replace the entire unit as it is due to fail at any time, most parts stores will either have one in stock or can get one overnight. A few more dollars spent now will prevent you from going back in there after a few months. HTH
