i replaced the egr valve which is what the diagnostics showed to be the problem but i have disconnected the battery several times and the check engine light still comes on
You may need to rerun it for code,s,there may be another problem that did not show up the first time.
The CEL can be turned off with a scanner, as long as TST already has the answer and there are other problems.
The check engine light may not go off right away. The computer needs to run and pass diagnostics on the system before it decides everything is ok. If you don't have a scan tool, simply drive normally for about a week. BUT keep your gas tank between 3/4 and 1/4 full. No more and no less. This will insure that all the diagnostics will run. The light should go off in 2 or 3 days if the problem is solved. But, if after a week it's still on, something else is wrong. HTH. -Jim
