EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It's an emission control device that sends a small amount of exhaust gases back to the intake manifold to be reburned. It helps reduce hydrocarbons at the tailpipe. There's a valve that opens and closes, as needed, to control the flow of these exhaust gases. The most common complaint from these systems is hard starting, rough idle, and stalling. These are symptoms of the EGR valve sticking open. Since your Dodge is an '03 model if the EGR system is malfunctioning it will most likely throw a trouble code and cause your check engine light to come on. HTH. -Jim
