My truck was running fine. I got gas and when I
started engine within the first mile gauge read hot
so I shut it off when I tried to crank it it was like it
jumped time. Truck has 196000 miles on it.

It was indeed hot and you can kiss that engine good bye. Smell the engine oil, if it smells burnt then for sure it is toast. If it doesn't then there is a chance that it can be overhauled.

Could the timing chain be the problem?

If it is then the Pistons have kissed the valves and you still in for an overhaul.
