Asked by GuruWVDDG Apr 26, 2018 at 10:44 AM about the 2002 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT Plus Quad Cab LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck stalls and dies when I stop or make a slow
turn the previous owner installed a cold air intake
and it’s pretty bad but the mass air flow sensor is
missing since he removed it, the previous owner
said it sat for about a year it does not stall if you
keep giving it gas while you’re stopped but if you
have to stop real quick then it dies

I'm not sure of engine liter size? The engine size I looked at, wiring diagram, has no maf sensor. Does have a map sensor. If you think the aftermarket parts is causing you problems, put it back stock? The computer and engine has to be on the same page or you may have problems? Any applicable trouble codes? How long since a tune-up? Can you check idle rpms? Check and clean anything that has to do with idle air system. See if it helps. Just my opinion.

I bought it from a dude who put the aftermarket parts on I didn’t install the cold air intake I don’t have the stock intake but would the map sensor cause it to stall?

Other than what I have posted, I don't know how to help? If your good under the hood, working on your own vehicles, you shouldn't have a problem installing stock intake. You might be able to go to salvage yard and find all the stock parts you need, hopefully. Some of what I said in first post is just basic stuff.

I know I understand that but I asked if the map sensor can stall the truck when stopping or not?

I suppose it's possible. Any trouble codes or anything to lead you in that direction? With everything off, unplug the map sensor, then start the vehicle and take it for a spin, does it do any better?
