If I sideswiped another vechicle driver side to driver side, what would be some reasons that my truck will not start and it does not go into gear?

You probably "tripped" a fuel inertia switch so the fuel pump has been electronically "shut off" and the switch needs to be "reset". As for the transmission not going into gear, you could have jarred the linkage or the "Park/Neutral Start Switch" out of alignment. How bad did you "sideswipe" this other vehicle ?

and did you report it to the proper authorities?
