2001 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 4x4 feels like the transmission needs another gear at 65 mph shaking and when let of gas pedal it feels like I have downshifted. Any suggestions on what to check. Trans shifts normal.
Driving from 0 to 65 mph, truck runs fine and trans shifts good. When I am accelerating to 65 + mph, the truck starts shaking violently and when I let off the accelerator, it feels like I have manually downshifted and the engine is assisting in slowing down the truck. Everything runs and shifts fine until it get over the 65 mph mark. I am not sure that the engine, transmission and transfer is OEM. The Chasis is a 2001, but I bought a new Serpitine belt for it and the part number was for a 2000 5.9L gas engine. I thought maybe the transfer was in 4 wheel high, but according to the shifter pattern, it isn't, but again, the manual showes the lever in an upright position for 2 wheel drive and mine is currently all the way forward.
How can the trans be shifting normal and your not able to get into over drive? You mean shift normal till then? I suspect your overdrive band my be burned not allowing your trans to shift into the higher gear. In order to fix you will need to take the trans apart to replace, necessitating a rebuild. Have a local shop/garage/mechanic test drive and diagnose your problem to confirm my guess.
