Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a '99 Ram 5.9 4X4 with 95K. Occasionally, when passing my Trans will downshift, slip out of gear then back in then out again until I let off the accelerator. however, this does NOT occur if O.D. is off. When towing especially uphill I disengage O.D. and have no issues.
is there a fix for this or is there a Trans swap that will work in this Drivetrain? The most I tow is approx. 7,000Lbs (trailer & Quads).

Sounds like the overdrive band is shot. The OD band gets burned up over time, and to replace you have to disassemble the whole trans, that's why all shops will tell you to rebuild it. You can try a used trans to save money, but if you like the truck and keeping it many years, so shops will rebuilt it for you better than stock and use Heavy Duty clutches/ bands.
