Won't start only one clicking noise
1999 Dodge ram 1500 5.2 L brand-new starter new battery when you go to
turn on it clicks one time. I checked the ignition wire on the starter and it's
getting 12.4 V at all times or any suggestions?
Sounds like there is a problem with the new starter, not uncommon with Doge starters. Try tapping on the starter with a hammer to see if it will jar it loose.
I did and still only 1 click. Took the starter back and got a new one and same thing
Then it is not getting enough power from the battery, how does the battery cables look?
They look clean. I disconnected the cable so anyways clean them and it started. Thank you for your help
One more question. Having a problem with passing smog. Change the O2 sensors that did not help checked my timing and it was perfect. Do you think it could be the CAT?
A catalytic converter is designed to last up to 150,000 miles, with no engine malfunctions, engine miss would damage a catalytic converter. I would have a emissions shop look at those readings to verify.
