what is wrong when the over drive switches off what is happening
When you turn off over drive, your car doesnt use its final gear that means of your car has 5 speed its only using 4 speed.over drive is very important for better fuel efficiency.
that and engine life. Does your O/D have an on/off button? I ask b/c I will try to find schematic
yes it does
Sorry Elder I got myself in a bind trying to answer too many questions at the same time. Just seems a lot if stuff I happen to know all hit. My "areas". I will keep trying

5.2 2wd automatic transmission dodge 1500 ram
When the tranny shifts into overdrive it upshifts to the highest gear and the torque converter clutch locks in. The most common problem is usually the torque converter clutch solenoid. They become sticky with age and use. Sometimes they'll engage and sometimes they won't. Sometimes they'll get stuck on and cause stalling as soon as you shift out of park. Sometimes they'll stick off causing you to lose overdrive. My guess here is that the computer is disabling overdrive because the torque converter clutch is not engaging because of a bad solenoid. You're welcome. Glad to help. - Jim
what would cause the transmission temperature light to come on and it isn,t hot.Do i have to change the computer? The overdrive want engage on the shift cable, where is the button on the column?
There's a temperature sensor, usually screwed into one of the cooling lines. Perhaps it's lost it's calibration. HTH. -Jim
Usually the O/D button is on the end of the shifter stalk. HTH. -Jim
I'm having the same problem with my 01' Dodge Ram. Tran Temp light comes on and O/D turns off while driving maybe, 10-20miles . It can't be turned on with button. After it sits all night, the O/D comes back on fine. All solenoids and speed sensor have been changed. Still does it. Any ideas?
Our 2000 dodge ram 1500 does the same exact thing have u been able to find out what was causing this problem email at email@example.com
The truck shifts fine and 20 minutes after driving I lose my overdrive and it won't go back on and a few minutes later the transmission temperature light comes on and if I shut the truck off for 30 minutes it's fine until I drive again for 20 minutes and it repeats ever time any suggestions we changed the filter and drained all the fluid and put new atf + 4 in .
Hey Danielle...Did you ever figure out what was going on with your truck....My dodge 1500 3.9 2wd is doing the same thing..
