Wonky Transmission

Asked by Mar 16, 2016 at 04:13 PM about the 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 4 Dr Laramie SLT Extended Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I let my dodge ram warm up for 10 minutes
before I use it the transmission works great.  But
when I don't or slips between 2nd and 3rd gear. Is
this something that can be fixed with a routine
$150 transmission maintaince at a repair shop or
is this a sign of a worse issue?

Slipping usually is a sign of worn clutches in the transmission. Low fluid might make it worse or worn fluid. You can try new fluid and see if it helps. If not your looking at a rebuild or replacement.
