Those mid-to-late 90's and early 2000's had trans failure problems and cost to repair/rebuild or buy new is out-of-site high so I understand why you put in a used trans. Have tried and true Dodge trans builder rebuild it for you, they will know the fixes.

Now not all trans had issues as some did not, not sure of the exact reason behind this as I do not recall why, but know of plenty that did, But for the one that did not they do just fine as I have family that has a 2001 ram with over 200k miles and trans has never gave a problem, it does get serviced regular.

I think I remember part of it I have heard of the Dodge trucks built in Mexico having issues. These were mostly 2500 & 3500 but for reasons unknown some 1500's were in-fact built in Mexico and having issues among others is also rust and paint bubbling and diesel problems. You can look up the VIN to see where it was built.
