Flooding after changing the water pump

I just changed a water pump,  and now when I try
to start the truck it will fire once and stop firing and
floods out.  Could you help and tell me why it is
flooding now. The engine is a 5.2 1997 extended
cab 4x4 dodge ram sport 1500 shortbed
