Info for what? Checking the level? Park on a level surface, trans/engine warm, pull the stick, wipe and reinsert, then pull out again and the level should be between the holes or cross hatched area, look at both sides, the lower side is the level. But be nice to your friend.

The instructions were put on the dipstick for a reason by the manufacturer that designed, engineered and built the vehicle. Not going by the printed instructions is just plain dumb. For example...my 2014 Dodge Ram will show the transmission is WAY overfilled when pulling the dipstick with the engine not running, but when I follow the instructions on the dipstick (engine running at operating temperature in Park) it shows a proper fluid level in the transmission. Your friend is a dumb dumb.
