Loud noise

Asked by Feb 07, 2016 at 08:30 PM about the 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 2 Dr Laramie SLT 4WD Extended Cab LB

For some reason my 97 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4
makes a roaring sound when I put it in reverse but
mostly in the winter but after I shift to drive it stops  
what could this be?

Any number of things, bushing wear in the tranny, also the transfer case, ring and pinion not set right.
