Dodge ram 1500 4x4 tranny

Asked by Joescheidt Apr 13, 2016 at 11:32 PM about the 1996 Dodge RAM 1500 ST Club Cab LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 96 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with a 5.9L has been
having transmission issues. First it wouldn't shift
past 2nd gear. So I changed the high speed sensor
in the transmission. It worked after that for about
10 miles then would slip from a stop forward and
reverse. I then changed the pressure solenoid and
governor sensors in tranny and also the high
speed sensor in the rear end and tightened the
bands. It shifted great afterwards up and down. Od
worked perfect. Then after 23 miles I came to a
stop and I had to rev the engine to about 3k to get
it to move. Once moving it shifted up and down
perfectly. Works now for  20 miles then repeats...
can anyone help?

Put a transmission cooler on it , ur tranny is getting hot ur lines are probably stopped up, ur transmission lines that is . I have a 99. I also had this same trouble ,My buddies also have Dodge's they all do this . Its called a transmission cooler , call Napa they have them in stock. The transmission cooler is inside the radiator and the lines get stopped up. It happens to most if not all of them.
