Ok, so a friend of my boyfriend who knows
something about cars came by to look at my
2001 Chevy Malibu ls and told me my car
computer jumped time so he cleared it with
his scanner and now it's running my car was
doing the exact same as everyone else's on
here, it would crank but not enough like it
wasn't getting gas, my first thought was
maybe the gas was bad but according to the
scanner it's my computer. So my ? Is, is this
still a problem even though it's running and
what does it really mean?
Was the check engine light on before he cleared it?
The computer doesn't "jump timing". It controls ignition timing based on input from certain sensors like the knock sensor, for example. Was this guy able to get any trouble codes out of the computer? Sounds like he got lucky and the engine started after he was plugged into the computer. My guess is you have a bad electrical connection somewhere and the engine will quit again. If the check engine or service engine soon light comes on before it quits, and it may, scan the computer for trouble codes and post any that you get here. We'll be able to help further. HTH. -Jim
Yes the check engine light was on before
And I've taken the car to get scanned before also it read that my o2 sensor was bad if I'm saying it right
A faulty oxygen sensor (O2 sensor) can make the engine run poorly. Most definitely. HTH. -Jim
Thanks this information was very helpful
You're welcome. Glad to help. -Jim
