2001 Chevy Impala Electronics ignition issue
My sister vehicle keeps having the same issue. All dashlights are flashing
without the key in the ignition. Once she goes to start the car the ignition won't
start the car. I've done a little bit of research and saw that there could be an
electronics issue located somewhere in the steering column. Any
troubleshooting techniques would be much appreciated!
Make sure battery has a full charge and connections are good. Note the diagram, The fuse on the right is only hot with the key. off and key out the fuse shouldn't have voltage, use a test light to check voltage at the fuse. If voltage w/o the key, either something wrong with ignition switch or circuit is shorted to voltage. The fuse on the left, hot all the time. You can see the reset symbol in diagram, if you pull the fuse, it may allow the instrument cluster to reset, you can try and see if it will help? As far as the vehicle not starting, If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you check for spark--proper fuel pressure--fuel injector pulse. Any applicable trouble codes?
