What's up with my 5.7 ECT sensor

Hi, I just replaced my ECT sensor and now the
gauge pegs to high when the engine warms up
(hose still cool). Is this a reset issue or a defective
product?

When the sensor is cold is should have high resistance that gradually drops as the sensor warms up... meaning a cold engine or unplugged sensor should show cold on the gauge.. if its showing hot its either a short in the wiring bypassing the sensor or a defective sensor
