there are sensors located on each wheel~ one of them has it's wires cut by road debris~ take to a mechanic for inspection~

not have a clue? follow the signal to the sensor....that beyond his capabilities?

Check wiring diagram, sometimes there's other things tied in to the same circuit and it'll drive u nuts trying to find it in the abs. Seen it happen on a 2005 ford f150. Egr valve heater is tied in to the abs system and it shorted out and could not find the issue til I read the electrical schematic

some ABS sensors use a part of the transistor for the sensor...Impalas have this system...so testing with a normal apparatus may not show conductivity~ so one must visually look for road debris causing damage....possibly the actual sensor, in the wheel...might probably check the output of these sensors too...high wear items will go bad~

Make it easier on your self and find someone who has a scanner that can read ABS codes. It will tell you where the problem is.

The mechanic does not have a clue......................... So why continue going to him?

you could "pull it out", but then the braking system would not work right~ it's like the "black tape" solution~ will work okay but usually requires an oxygen sensor...in this case the intelligence to the automatic braking system has been cut off...if you can spot your concern on the wiring diagram might help to find the troubled goodies...I suspect a high-wear item...as wheels go round and round and will grate away any moving parts~ the transponder curtain has slits that your optical sensor has to look through...if this is your technology (haven't looked) but generally this is how it's done...no moving parts per se, but is vulnerable to MUD or debris cutting off this intelligence...this is where we are today...you must inspect the "curtains" for your abs~ surprised if it was obstructed by a leaf (for example) your mechanic did not find that right away~
