what should oil pressure be at idle & while running in 5th gear

Oil pressure is measured at the bottom end of the engine. At idle ,and warmed up it should be about 35 lbs. At 2000 rpm it should be at 40 lbs . When engine is cold it can be as high as 55lbs. IF YOU EVER SEE IT AS LOW 15 - 20 cold and lower warmed up you have a problem. If your main bearings are wearing out ( getting loose on the crank) the top end of engine is being starved of oil.
