Trac Off light

Asked by Jun 24, 2012 at 08:05 PM about the 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My trac off light comes on and then the transmission won't shift out of low gear on my automatic car. Does anyone know what might cause this? I have no idea why the light even comes on at all!

I'm guess one of the front wheel speed sensor jumper harness is bad, and could have an intermittent connection. So when the Trac off light is on, this tells the computer the car is sliding on ice or snow and it won't allow the transmission to operate over 20mph. Have a local garage diagnose which one wheel sensor is bad, and have them repair or replace it with a new one and all should be good again.
