You need to hook it to manifold vacuum, look where the vacuum line it attached from the brake booster, there my be a port that is capped off there, if not you will have to splice into the booster hose or another manifold hose.

So where do I run the vac line through the upper intake

Just follow the booster line, if the factory deemed it a ok path you can too.
