I have a 1991 chevy s10 2.5l eng runs at 1000rpm out of gear ,valves sounds really loud !! try to reset the timing to 8degree lost power !! rpm is the same and valves still loud !

I have taken the intake off the eng and put new gasket . All the fitting has been cleaned
and threads are sealed . new hoses on intake manitfold and tbi .

Has is sit for a while UNDRIVEN? If so I would try a sea foam or CTC oil treatment. Doing this will clean all the sludge from the hyd lifters and quite it right down most times.
