2006 Honda CR V AC Clutch Worn

Asked by Widowed Jul 06, 2020 at 02:38 PM about the 2006 Honda CR-V SE AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I posted a question a week or so ago about my AC,
asking if it could possibly be clutch. Two issues
were found, blower motor is bad and still under
warranty as it was replaced a year and a half ago.
Big issue is the clutch in the AC is worn. They said
it was more reasonable to do the whole
compressor financially and labor wise which would
come with the clutch assembly than to just do the
clutch assembly by itself. I told them I would have
to think on that one. Clutch could go out tomorrow
or next year, no one really knows, right?
Compressor tested good otherwise. Thoughts
appreciated....

Replace the compressor. By the time you pay for the labor to replace just the clutch you will have paid for a new compressor anyhow. To do the job correctly they should also replace the accumulator and orifice tube, if equipped, as well. Two years ago the compressor clutch fell apart on my 94 Fleetwood. It was so bad that the whole car actually shook when it was running! Just like you, the compressor was fine it was just the clutch that was bad. I had them replace the compressor, accumulator, and the orifice tube. It's been fine since. Hope that helps! Jim
