how do I tell if a/c needs replacement

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2006 Honda CRV has a white residue in the engine compartment.  How do I tell if the air
conditioning is bad?

Where is the white residue? Sometimes it can be dried coolant. Or I've seen some white powder that sits on metal surfaces, but that is normal. You would know if your AC wasn' working if the cabin wasn't getting cool.
