I just bought a new brake light switch and put
everything back and I still cant move the gear
shifter and brake lights still not working.  Why
would the new part not work???? Ive been working
on it for 5 hours its driving my nuts

Did you make sure you have power going to the brake light switch, also check for broken wiring right at the connector.
