How does the Ford seat belt restraint system work ?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

None of my seat belts is getting blocked - not even when pulling them as fast as possible. Is this due to bad seat belt retractors or does Ford use a special restraint system to activate seat belts (e.g. electronically controlled) ? How can I check if my seat belts are working properly ?

electronic seat belts? Not on a 1990- not ever, I hope- you are diligent to be checking your belts- they might be defective after 24 years- just replace the mechanisms- and the belts, while you're at it- you won't know if they are working properly until the fat hits the fire- but, anyway, a car that old is not the safest thing on the road in the 21st century- and crash safety IS important- check out the video of the old Impala crashing into the new Impala- sobering-

But how likely is it that ALL seat belts behave the same way ? I also have an '87 Mercury Grand Marquis - same thing there. I doubt that all seat belts might be defective. Statistically there should be at least 1 working properly - compared to a seat belt system of a "today's" car.
