I have a 2005 Ford f150 5.4L. The truck will not start without pumping the gas. How do I fix this?
It could be a host of problems that will cause this. It could be a fuel pump, fuel pump control module, fuel pump relay, you could have a dirty throttle body.
If you have to pump the pedal like a madman to get it started then I would bet it's the fuel pump. Checking the fuel pressure will help confirm the diagnosis.
As the above stated, check fuel pressure first. For a long time now starting cars do not require the gasoline pedal to be depressed at all for starting. In fact, the proper procedure is not to.
