Cam phaser or something else?
My F150 runs great but sometimes when it's idling it idles rough but has
only stalled on me once. Took it in for an oil change and their master
mechanic, just by listening, said it was the cam phasers. Quoted me a price
of a couple of thousand dollars to repair but recommended a new crate
motor installed at a price of about $7800.00!
Is there something else that could cause this that I should check first? It
has 218,000 miles on it! The repair would only guarantee the cam phaser
repairs for 3 months. Would it be worth it?
I just don't feel investing in a new motor for a 2005 would be worth it. I can
dang near buy another 2005 with fewer miles on it for the price of the
I'm thinking buy a newer model!!!
There is a kit out there that can do away with the phasing all together, if your so inclined.
Buy a low mileage 2005 salvage motor, there a lot less $7800 lol funny! who's going to do that instead of buy the whole truck? don't repair the phaser's (did he mention VCTs) at 218,000 miles and 11 years old. Buy a 50,000 miles engine for $500-600 have it changed for 900-1400 including all fluids and a few seals...DONE. Oh , change the transmission too, $275 the 218,000 miles one is going to fail soon.
