Why won,t it start ?

Asked by Aug 02, 2016 at 07:23 AM about the 2004 Ford F-150 XL 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just got 2004 f150,5.4 3v. Owner was driving on interstate truck slowly lost rpm and stalled. When I got truck exhaust was off. Started engine but had very low rpm, 300 or so. Idle would surge to 700 at times but I could sometimes feather pedal and move truck. [ that's how I got it in shop ].Connected exhaust, cleaned maf and throttle, Disconnected battery for 1 hour. Now it just cranks no start. Had no codes from start, fuel pressure is 52 psi while cranking and filter is new.

First thing to do is a leakdown test. Know what the base engine condition before going further. After this the rest is easy. Ignition or fuel. Don't waste time with a compression test rent a leakdown tester If necessary.
