2002 Chevy Malibu it's been sitting for 3 years it will start for a second then shuts off what could be the problem

Before you start it you should replace the battery, and drain as much fuel out of the fuel system and add new gasoline? Also you want to change the oil and coolant?

do a passlock reset put ignition key into ignition turn to the ACC position ( NOT THE ON POSITION) do not start car. leave key at ACC position for 10 minutes then turn key to off position and try to start it. guaranteed this is the problem
