Why does my 2002 impala engine blow air while off?

Asked by Guru9TKHC1 Mar 26, 2021 at 05:04 AM about the 2002 Chevrolet Impala LS FWD

Question type: General

So when I park my 2002 impala and shut the
engine off the engine will start making a
blowing sound. Didn't think too much of it
but it killed my battery the next day. Not a
car guy and this is legit my first. Tried
reading up on it but found nothing. Need
some help

Check the radiator cooling fans. If they're running after the ignition is turned off I'd suspect a bad fan relay in the underhood fuse box. There's 3. One for each fan motor, low speed, and a third for both fans, high speed. Remove the relays, one by one until the fans stop. That should be the bad (stuck) relay. Hope that helps! Jim

It is normal for the cooling fans to stay on after you turn engine off but only for a couple minutes depending on temperature. If they're staying on for hours then either a bad temperature sensor by the radiator or stuck relay as mentioned above.
