What could be causing my 2003 ford f150 4.2 v6 to rattle at 60 mph but not driving around in the city?
It rattles when Im cruising at 60 mph, sometimes when I give it gas it will stop but when I gradually accelerate it will rattle
Any number of things could cause this, bad fuel, running too lean, a sensor misread, ECM spark over advance, EGR flow low, I would try running some SeaFoam in the fuel tank first to clean up the injectors, if it still rattles or pings you may need to have the system "live data" scanned to look for incorrect sensor readings. Note: a lot of fuel stations have started using winter fuel grade fuels if this has just started after your last fill up then put in the next grade up and see if it goes away.
If the rattle is "ping" then try a higher grade gas and see if it stops. If so then you have detonation.
